Nathan Morcom has today announced his driving plans for 2017, as he lined up to join the Supercars Dunlop Series with three time Champions Eggleston Motorsport.
Morcom jumped in a Supercar for the first time with Tekno Autosports last year, where he impressed on-lookers at the team’s Sponsor Ride Day.
Morcom will head into the Dunlop Series following his win at the World Time Attack Challenge and Bathurst 6 Hour Race, teamed with his Australian GT Endurance Championship Title and 3rd place finish in the Australian GT Sprint Championship.
Morcom spoke to Supercars earlier this week about his expectations for the 2017 Season.
“MAKING THE STEP INTO THE SUPERCARS DUNLOP SERIES IS A BIG ONE AND I’M UNDER NO ILLUSION THAT IT’S GOING TO BE EASY AT ALL. BUT WHEN YOU MOVE INTO A CATEGORY LIKE THIS YOU NEED TO DO IT WITH THE BEST TEAM POSSIBLE AND I THINK THAT’S WHAT WE’VE DONE BY LINKING WITH EGGLESTON MOTORSPORT. THEIR EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION IS FIRST CLASS AND HAVING TRIPLE EIGHT-SOURCED HARDWARE AT THE CORE OF THAT GIVES US THE BEST OPPORTUNITY. I’M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING SOME TIME IN THE CAR AND HITTING THE TRACK IN ADELAIDE AT THE CLIPSAL 500 TO START MY SEASON.”
Eggleston Motorsport has recently bought New Generation VF Commodores from Triple Eight Race Engineering, one of which Morcom will pilot for the year.
Team Manager of Eggleston Motorsport, Rachael Eggleston, spoke to Supercars about Morcom’s potential.
“WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE THE CURRENT AUSTRALIAN GT ENDURANCE AND WORLD TIME ATTACK CHAMPION JOIN THE TEAM IN 2017. HAVING COMPETED AGAINST NATHAN LAST YEAR IN THE GT CHAMPIONSHIP WE SAW FIRST-HAND HIS TALENT BEHIND THE WHEEL. AFTER SOME SOLID TEST DAYS IN WHAT WE BELIEVE IS THE BEST MACHINERY IN THE FIELD WE HAVE NO DOUBT HE WILL BE TOWARDS THE POINTY END IN NO TIME. NATHAN HAS A HUGE ARRAY OF EXPERIENCE UNDER HIS BELT IN PRODUCTION CARS, GT CARS OVERSEAS AND AUSTRALIA, OPEN WHEELERS, TIME ATTACK AND MUCH MORE. WE’RE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH HIM AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHAT WE’RE ABLE TO ACHIEVE AS A TEAM THIS SEASON.”
Morcom will race at the Dunlop Series Races at the Clipsal 500, Tasmania SuperSprint, Phillip Island SuperSprint, Townsville 400, Sydney SuperSprint, Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000 (standalone non-points event) and the new Newcastle 500.
Morcom will debut in the Dunlop Series at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 2-5, with all Races to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports.
