After a disappointing opening round in the Australian Championship on the streets of Albert Park in Victoria last month, the 17-year-old has his sights on bouncing back and running amongst the top five contenders. “My testing sessions have been very encouraging as we have been able to pinpoint areas where I need to improve,” remarked Morcom. “Recently I headed down to Phillip Island Raceway for the opening round of the Victorian Championship and although I would have liked to have posted better results my speed is there and it’s just a matter of being able to build on that.”
Morcom is certainly no stranger to the Winton Motor Raceway circuit as it is where he does a lot of his testing for the Borland Racing Developments team and it is where he recorded his maiden race victory in Formula Ford during a round of last year’s Victorian Championship. “Knowing the circuit very well after doing a lot of laps around it certainly fills you with more confidence but I am not going to get carried away with all that,” Morcom expressed. “The main goals for the weekend are to firstly qualify strongly and I am hopeful that if I am consistent enough then I can be amongst the top five contenders.” Morcom in 2009 is proudly sponsored by Rondo Building Supplies, Plastamasta Smithfield – Campbelltown and Canberra and NSW Stretch Ceilings. |
