The eighth and final round of the
Australian Formula Ford Championship at Oran Park Raceway Morcom was hoping for a better outcome to the weekend, that saw the opening race cancelled due to a crash and race two and three resulted in a pair of 12th place finishers, but he gained plenty of experience that is going to hold him good stead for when he competes in next year’s Australian Formula Ford Championship on a full-time basis. During the third and final race of the weekend Morcom was up as high as 10th place before the # 71 Rondo Building Supplies supported Spectrum 011C driver dropped back in the latter stages of the race to finish 12th. “My best race of the weekend was the final race as I had moved up to as high as 10th only to fall back due to a slow restart and it managed to catch me off guard,” explained the 16-year-old. “The weekend in terms of result was not something that I was too pleased with but I was able to gain plenty of laps and experience.”
With the entire Australian Formula Ford Championship on the agenda next year Morcom was glad to have tested the water by contesting the final two rounds of this year’s Australian Championship. The highlight from the last two rounds of the Australian Championship was without a doubt his sixth place overall during the seventh and penultimate round down at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania. “I can now go into next year’s Australian Championship not flying blind as I now know what to expect not only from a competition sense but also from the Duratec cars themselves,” Morcom said. “It has also given me an opportunity to get to work with the Borland Racing Developments team in readiness for next year. I now have a feel for what they’re about and vice versa.” Morcom in 2008 is proudly supported by Rondo Building Supplies, Plastamasta Smithfield – Campbelltown and Canberra, and NSW Stretch Ceilings. |
