A sixth place finish overall during the seventh and penultimate round of the
Australian Formula Ford After running the majority of this year in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, where he placed fifth overall in the final point standings, Morcom since recently being announced as one of the 2009 CAMS Rising Star drivers has elected to contest the final two rounds of this year’s Australian Formula Ford Championship. Making his debut in the Australian Formula Ford Championship and with the Borland Racing Developments team, Morcom was able to bring home a pleasing result that saw him finish ninth in the opening race, followed by a sixth and fourth place in the respectively in race two and three. The highlight of the third and final race was Morcom being up as high as third place only to finish fourth after being past by CAMS Rising Star team-mate Daniel Erickson in the closing stages.
“I had a great weekend and my end result certainly exceeded my expectations heading into the weekend,” the 16-year-old commented. “Earlier in the weekend I just worked on learning the car and the circuit. In the three races I was able to move forward and that all came down to being consistent and staying out of trouble.” Looking back on the weekend Morcom was certainly able to tick plenty of boxes and is certainly excited about contesting the eighth and final round of the Australian Championship at Oran Park Raceway on December 4 – 7. Morcom would like to say a big thanks to the entire Borland Racing Developments team for all their support, along with CAMS Rising Star teammates Daniel Erickson, Scott Pye and Jake Chapman. Morcom in 2008 is proudly supported by Rondo Building Supplies, Plastamasta Smithfield – Campbelltown and Canberra, and NSW Stretch Ceilings. |
